Writers in our Midst (WiOM) is a popular reading series of fiction, poetry, and performance. This family-friendly affair is back in-person for Writers in our Midst #22, Halloween edition. Join us on for a chance to hear and meet local authors.

Trevor Atkins has been working with words for much of his life. Nowadays, he is writing historical fiction & designing educational tabletop games for young humans to help make learning fun. His current historical adventure, The Day the Pirates Went Mad, is available in person and online at local bookstores: Western Sky Books in Port Coquitlam, Kinder Books in New Westminster, and also, just across the street from the Port Moody Library, at Coastal Books.

D.B. Carew was born in Newfoundland and Labrador and has called British Columbia home since 1993 where he lives with his wife and two children. He has worked at the provincial forensic psychiatric hospital for the past twenty-five years. D.B. Carew’s first book, The Killer Trail, was published in 2014 by NeWest Press. His second book, The Weight of Blood, was published in 2020 by NeWest Press. The manuscript for his third book has been submitted to NeWest Press for consideration of publication. He is a member of Crime Writers of Canada and the Crime Writers Association.
A.J. Devlin A.J. Devlin grew up in Greater Vancouver before moving to Southern California where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Screenwriting from Chapman University and a Master of Fine Arts in Screenwriting from The American Film Institute. After working as a screenwriter in Hollywood, he moved back home to Port Moody, BC, where he now lives with his wife and two children.
Cobra Clutch, the first book in the "Hammerhead" Jed professional wrestling mystery-comedy series, was released in spring 2018 and nominated for a Lefty Award for Best Debut Mystery and won the 2019 Crime Writers of Canada Arthur Ellis Award for Best First Novel. The sequel, Rolling Thunder, was released in spring 2020 and was featured in the Vancouver Sun, The Province, The Globe and Mail, Kirkus Reviews, and Library Journal, and on CBC The Next Chapter.

Lozano Gilabert studied and worked as a psychotherapist for nearly twelve years before becoming a writer. Lozano Gilabert spent many Friday evenings at one of Mexico’s main psychiatric hospitals interviewing patients. Some say his stories are based on what was learned through those interviews. Winona Kent is an award-winning author who was born in London, England and grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan, where she completed her BA in English at the University of Regina. After moving to Vancouver, she graduated from UBC with an MFA in Creative Writing. Winona is the author of the Jason Davey mystery series, featuring professional musician / amateur sleuth Jason (Davey) Figgis. Her latest release is Ticket to Ride, is the forth book in the series.
Debra Purdy Kong’s volunteer experiences, criminology diploma, and various jobs inspired her to write mysteries set in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland. Her employment as a campus security patrol and communications officer provided the background for her Casey Holland transit security novels. Over the decade, Debra’s been a facilitator for the Creative Writing Program offered through Port Moody’s Recreation Department. She’s also a long-time member of Crime Writers of Canada.
Taewon Kook is a member of Port Moody Writers' Group. His story, The Wedding Pouch appears in the anthology New Beginnings. He writes about Korean and Chinese folklore and monsters.
