Writing from our real lives requires us to be vulnerable. To do this work with courage, we must begin by being honest about how challenging it can be to explore our inner landscapes on the page. In this class, author Julianne Harvey of Ruby Finch Books will lead writers of creative nonfiction through a series of key building blocks necessary for writing a memoir. We’ll talk about structure, voice, characters, POV, setting, theme, truth-telling (what we choose to reveal and what we leave out), and more in a supportive and inspiring environment. Please bring a notebook and pen or a laptop.
Julianne Harvey is an author, educator, and nurturer. She’s written four books and her work has appeared in several literary magazines. Julianne holds an MFA and a BA in Creative Writing, along with a Certificate in Counselling Skills. She lives in South Surrey, BC with her family and two unruly, badly behaved cats. Her first YA novel, Jamesy Harper’s Big Break, is now available. For more info, please see julianneharvey.com and rubyfinchbooks.com.
